Story Enjoyment Measure

Description:

A survey was administered on the iPad after story reading to assess how much each child liked the story, liked using the iPad to listen to the story, would recommend the story to their friends, and believed that the iPad helped story understanding. Each question was constructed as a 4-point Likert-type item, with visual options of four faces (i.e., a full open-mouth smiling face, a half closed-mouth smiling face, a half frowning face, and a full frowning face) presented with a written and audio statement of "I really liked it," "I kind of liked it," "I kind of didn't like it," and "I really didn't like it." This format was chosen because forced-choice options that pair a statement with a picture have been found to help children better understand a survey task (Harter & Pike, [41]). (author abstract)
