Previous studies have not evaluated the implementation of simultaneous positive parenting and teaching interventions and their impact on low-income children’s healthy eating and weight status. The Impact of a Preschool Obesity Prevention (I-POP) intervention study will test the combination of evidence-based preschool nutrition and physical activity education component with evidence-based parent and teacher components. As health disparities in weight status among Mississippi elementary school children are on a decline, the long-term goal of this research is to continue that trajectory in reducing obesity prevalence and disparities in weight status among low-income children attending Head Start centers in Mississippi. This paper aims to detail the methods of the multicomponent, multicenter I-POP intervention. (author abstract)
