The Alaska 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) program provides competitive grants to school districts and organizations to offer learning and enrichment opportunities outside of regular school hours. The program supports students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools by providing critical resources to establish after-school centers. In 2017, the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) received $5.8 million for 21st CCLC through Title IV, Part B, of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Most 21st CCLC grantees are school districts that operate multiple centers. Each center typically receives five years of funding. (author abstract)
