In 2019, Cognitive ToyBox expanded its assessment work from center and school-based early childhood education programs to supporting home-based child care programs as well. Through a two-year iterative research and development cycle with two family child care networks and 12 family child care providers in TX and WA, Cognitive ToyBox successfully refined its tool to support home-based family child care educators. All study participants chose to continue using Cognitive ToyBox after the pilot period ended. Family child care educators shared that the data from Cognitive ToyBox enabled them to build upon their strong existing relationships with families. Moreover, family child care networks found that the data enabled them to provide their family child care providers with more targeted support. (author abstract)
