Pandemic child care: Lessons from Central Ohio

Description:
Child care sites experienced new challenges as Ohio enacted legislation to keep children safe during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. For a short period of time, child care availability was limited to children of essential workers and a temporary license for providers became mandatory that required disease prevention-related restrictions like small group sizes and enhanced cleaning. This survey of child care sites in Columbus, Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Madison, Pickaway and Union Counties, identifies challenges faced by providers under the emergency pandemic regulations. Challenges include: a strained business model, staffing challenges, and access to cleaning/protective supplies.
