The foundation for educational success and economic prosperity in Michigan: Supporting social and emotional health

This brief discusses the relationship between the social and emotional health of young children and school achievement, as well as parents' employment arrangements and child care decisions in Michigan. Recommendations to ensure that children, parents, and caretakers have access to mental health services include: early screening by well-trained staff with standardized instruments; provision of state funding to support Early On intervention services; and provision of consultation services to non-parental caregivers.
