Description:
Responsibility for ensuring the safety of students in schools and children in childcare facilities is shared by the Department of Education and the Department of Community and Government Services. We looked at how the departments of Education and Community and Government Services have carried out their responsibilities in this area, focusing on the inspections they are required to conduct in school and childcare facilities. These include fire inspections in both types of facilities, as well as boiler and electrical inspections in schools. We also focused on the annual inspections the Department of Education is required to conduct in childcare facilities and the emergency evacuation drills that principals are required to conduct in schools.
