Child care workforce study: Child care teachers and assistants

Description:
This study examines the characteristics of teachers and assistant teachers in child care settings, as part of a larger study of the child care workforce in Kentucky in 2012. Surveys were received from 1,184 of an estimated 40,399 teachers in the state. Ninety-eight percent of teachers are female, and they average 5.2 years in their positions, with 62 percent having a bachelor's degree or higher. Twenty-one percent have their own children enrolled in the center where they work. The median annual salary of respondents is $20,342. Sixty-eight percent of teachers have health insurance. Most teachers are aware of the state quality rating and improvement
