Child care workforce study: Certified family child care homes

Description:
This study examines the characteristics of certified family child care homes, as part of a larger study of the child care workforce in Kentucky in 2012. Surveys were received from 66 of the 550 providers in Kentucky. All responding family child care providers were female, and they average nearly 13 years in their positions, with half having a bachelor's degree or higher. Mean full-time enrollment is 4.9 children. Sixteen percent of family child care providers have paid assistants. The median annual salary of child care home directors is $20,800. Sixty-four percent of providers have health insurance, though most of these have insurance through their spouse. Most providers are aware of the state quality rating and improvement system
