Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) subsidies help parents pay for child care so parents can work or participate in education and training activities. The federal government and states spent $13.3 billion1 to subsidize child care for working families with low incomes in 2020. Roughly three-quarters of this funding was from the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), which in FY2020 includes funding from the CARES Act (Public Law 116-136), while the remaining one-quarter came from other government funding streams related to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Social Services Block Grant.
