Why we made the map: Understanding Nebraska’s public investment in early childhood care and education (ECCE) is central to informed decision-making about funding and how those dollars translate into quality ECCE. The Nebraska Early Childhood Funding Map is an interactive tool designed to help the user visualize the current complexity involved in public-sector financing of Nebraska’s ECCE system while also exploring individual pathways within it. Deciphering the system: Finance mechanisms are the different tools available to get public dollars to ECCE providers that qualify to make use of the funds. The public dollars furnished through finance mechanisms come from funding sources that originate at the federal and state level and are distributed by funding disseminators to ECCE providers, also referred to as funding targets.
