2014 signature report: An analysis of Colorado's licensed child care system

Description:
Qualistar's fourth annual Signature Report provides updated figures regarding the availability and affordability of licensed child care in Colorado. Reports from previous years can be found at http://www.qualistar.org/early-learning-research-data.html. Licensed child care in Colorado consists of both home-based family child care and center-based programs, including child care centers, part-day preschools and before and after school programs. Licensing through the Colorado Department of Human Services indicates that a child care program has complied with basic health and safety standards and that its staff has met certain requirements regarding training, education, criminal background and work experience. While many children are cared for in unlicensed settings such as in the home of a family, friend or neighbor, this report focuses on licensed child care. (author abstract)
