Access to child care in Ventura County: Local Planning Council of Ventura County needs assessment addendum

Description:

The goal of this addendum was to create a supplemental resource to the Local Planning Council’s current needs assessment by gathering additional relevant data and key findings specific to child care access. A separate document, Access to Child Care in Ventura County - A Study of Current Barriers, Gaps and Opportunities for Licensed Child Care Facilities Expansion for ages 0-5 years was also created and provides context for some of the data in this report. In addition, a report and resources (Supporting Family Child Care Expansion Through were provided regarding local regulations on family child care, and the shift to the new State policy that all family child care exists “by right”, with no local regulatory oversight allowed (Family Child Care and SB234 Compliance in Ventura County). Together, these documents provide a foundation for understanding the link between child care access and child care facilities development in the county and offer suggestions for future activities, resources and strategies that can be implemented to improve access for young children in Ventura County.
