The importance of reading proficiency

In order to secure educational equity and the future economic viability of the commonwealth, it is critical that we take steps to ensure all children enter school prepared to succeed in the early elementary school years. This brief discusses the importance of developing a comprehensive early learning system, starting at birth, to ensure that all children are proficient readers by the time they enter fourth grade.
