Description:

Rochester Early Childhood Assessment Partnership (RECAP) is a continuous improvement initiative for prekindergarten classrooms in the vicinity of Rochester, New York. As part of its efforts, RECAP collects comprehensive data on program quality, student performance, and parent perspectives. This report presents findings from these data collected during the 2012-2013 school year from more than 100 classrooms, 2,000 students, and 1,200 parents. Key findings include: prekindergarten students make academic gains throughout the year, though many still do not achieve minimum levels of kindergarten readiness; students begin prekindergarten with higher levels of socioemotional development than in past years but display lower levels of growth over the course of the year; classrooms display higher levels of quality than are found in other national studies; and parent involvement remains low
