This brief describes the kindergarten landscape across the country and research supporting a full day of learning. It zooms in on one state, Arizona, to provide an illustrative example of what can happen when the availability of free full-day kindergarten to all students is not a statutory obligation. The brief also offers lessons from Arizona for policymakers across the country who are considering whether, and how, to expand the provision of and funding for full-day kindergarten. (author abstract)
