In this fact sheet, we share findings from virtual one-on-one and small group interviews with program directors from 29 licensed child care centers and homes in the District of Columbia conducted in late 2022 and early 2023. We asked directors about their experiences with recent enrollment changes, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their program, staffing and turnover, and their reflections on the newly implemented Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund. This fact sheet shares some of directors’ thoughts on the benefits of the Pay Equity Fund as well as implementation concerns. Directors generally voiced their support for the wage supplement, while also reflecting on how early educators have used the supplement and what changes could be made in the future to improve implementation.
