This brief takes its learnings and recommendations about strategies that programs can implement to support candidate learning and success from qualitative data collected from NAEYC-accredited early childhood education degree programs. In addition, as policymakers and early childhood education program leaders look to strategies that address effective preparation, the brief provides a general overview of NAEYC Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs as a system that both supports and recognizes quality early childhood professional preparation programs. It also provides an overview of the characteristics of accredited programs as well as candidate characteristics (see Appendix A for methodology). (author abstract)
