Strengthening the diversity and quality of the early care and education workforce: Summary of the 2018 and 2019 convenings

Description:

Removing systemic barriers to higher education and funding for professional compensation are a necessary part of efforts to strengthen early educator competencies to lead to stronger child outcomes. This issue and surrounding context prompted a series of expert convenings on this topic to provide an opportunity for discussion, learning, and idea generation. This report summarizes key themes from two of the convenings occurring in March 2018 and April 2019. A companion report (Schilder and Sandstrom 2021) summarizes the January 2021 convening with a focus on ECE workforce well-being and the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
