This 19th edition of the State of Preschool, the National Institute for Early Education Research’s (NIEER) report on our annual survey of state preschool policies, includes information for every state on child enrollment, funding, staffing, and quality standards. It also includes information about where children are served, characteristics of the children served, preschool program operating schedules, eligibility requirements, and other program features. The survey focused on the 2020-2021 school year and now includes 20 years of data dating back to 2002. Our report summarizes valuable information from the survey for policy-makers regarding the long-term trends and the immediate impacts of the pandemic. (author abstract)
