This guide discusses assessments as part of program design and outlines specific assessment types for the purposes of screening, diagnostic, and classroom/instructional use. It provides recommended assessment tools and links them to established standards in Kentucky. It also discusses quality improvement through program evaluation, along with the role of professional development in an early care and education system. The Kentucky Early Childhood Core Content and the Department of Education Professional Development Standards are provided as appendices.
