Seeds of achievement: AppleTree's early childhood D.C. charter schools

Description:
This paper examines the AppleTree Institute's prekindergarten curriculum and service delivery model, called Every Child Ready (ECR), as well as participating children's school readiness outcomes. The AppleTree Institute operates an early learning charter school network with seven campuses across Washington, DC. ECR is an evidence-based instructional model that places a strong emphasis on professional development and coaching for its teachers. Findings on participating children's vocabulary, early math, and early literacy outcomes are presented. Participants show significant progress on measures of these outcomes during the two years they are enrolled in the AppleTree program.
