Summer Science Pilot Project: Watts Up! Energy and Conservation: Evaluation findings 2012

Description:
This report provides evaluation findings from the Summer Science Pilot Project, which implemented the Watts Up! Energy and Conservation curriculum during the summer of 2012 at ten sites within two California school districts. This curriculum uses hands-on activities and icebreakers concentrated on the theme of energy conservation. Outlined are the pilot's six goals and the degree to which each was met. Four have been completed and two were reported as partially completed, which include: 1) Develop a replicable and sustainable system of technical assistance for summer STEM programs in other communities in California; and 2) Define how this system integrates with developing STEM in OST and CSLNet infrastructure. Data were collected through youth and staff surveys, training evaluations, and quality assessment. Nearly all youth reported that the summer science program taught them new things and made science more interesting and fun.
