Child care workforce study: Licensed child care directors

Description:
This study examines the characteristics of child care centers and their directors, as part of a larger study of the child care workforce in Kentucky in 2012. Surveys were received from 259 of the 1,789 directors in Kentucky. All but one director are female, and directors average nearly 9 years in their positions, with 70 percent having a bachelor's degree or higher. Mean full-time enrollment at centers is 45.5 children. Twenty-eight percent of center employees have been in their jobs less than one year. Child care center employees in Kentucky report wages that are less than the national average for child care workers. Most directors are aware of the state quality rating and improvement system
