Child care workers play a crucial role in early childhood development, providing the foundational care that supports children’s learning and well-being. However, each state has its own set of requirements for the child care workforce. From education and training to age and experience—licensing requirements impact who can care for young children. BPC conducted a scan of licensing requirements and competency standards for child care centers across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. States requirements vary greatly. (author abstract)
