Description:
Research Question: How do dietary intakes of children enrolled in centers participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program align with dietary recommendations? How do dietary intakes on a given day in child care compare with a day not in child care? Key Findings: During child-care and non-child-care days, usual intakes of fruit, grains, dairy, protein foods, and oils were near recommendations, whereas few children met recommended intakes for vegetables, whole grains, and limits on empty calories from added sugar and solid fats. Child-care days aligned to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans more closely than non-child-care days. (author abstract)
