This brief describes the Child Development Associate (CDA®) credential for the early childhood workforce and describes how CDA® is used to enhance states’ quality improvement rating systems (QRIS). Examples are given to illustrate teachers' experiences and to demonstrate how states recruit teachers and finance CDA® programs. A graphic of the United States represents the status of QRIS in the states.
